Defining Who We Are
For the Manifesto, Mission Statement, and General Purpose Packet
- We need to come up with one paragraph to explain:
- What our movement is, and
- We believe that copyright should encourage artists to create, but it is also has been used to prevent the creation of many creative works.
- Encompasses those who want to be more than a passive consumer -- it's for people who want to participate in government and "be the media"
- What do we mean by freedom?
- Being able to build upon the past
- The ability to use technology that allows us to practice these freedoms
- Fair Use doctrine
- The right to know about the world as much as you want
- How do we apply these freedoms? What kind of freedoms do we support?
- The availability of taxpayer funded research
- The ability to innovate
- Why it's important
- What our movement is, and
- Rhetoric: The environmental movement has powerful rhetoric like climate change, what do we have?
Some proposed changes on the General Purpose Pamphlet
P2P Gnutella server that distributes CC/PD/GNU content
- If more content will be submitted, content will be human reviewed
- Is looking or more content, grants
- Part of the CC Garden project?
- We're awaiting more information on the content/project before incorporating it completely into our organization
Open Access
Our next project
- Talk to your head librarian about open access
- Get to know how they can help with our cause, what they can do, how we can promote it on campus
- Get feedback from professors?
- The ability to access current publically funded content freely
