Internal Policy Paper
- We wanted to refine our current projects down to the ones that concerned the national organization
- So, the more local projects were jettisoned to their own page
- We decided to focus on three campaigns for this semester:
- Opposing DRM, the broadcast flag, and trusted computing
- Somewhat limited in scope, but time-sensitive.
- Education of the dangers and weaknesses of DRM and avoiding the broadcast flag, etc.
- We need to educate people on danger the broadcast flag poses to their freedoms and then direct them to channels that allow them to do something about it on a larger scale, because we don't necessarily have the resources to fight the FCC directly.
- Free Culture Tour
- Primary goal: to entertain.
- Also helps to raise awareness of FC, get the artists involved, and get people thinking about the commons on campus.
- Funding is a motivation to have this happen this semester.
- "Be the Media" Project
- Encompasses participatory culture. Changing the mindset of media from being just consumers to being a producer as well.
- Self-Publishing
- The Creative Commons Publisher makes it stupidly easy to host your own Creative Commons content on The Internet Archive. Get others to use it.
- Torrentocracy is testing out an easy-to-use content delivery system for individuals called Prodigem that allows people to publish their stuff via BitTorrent.
- Podcasting
- Opposing DRM, the broadcast flag, and trusted computing
